In 2017, the BMA is partnering with 8 to 12 congregations to help them achieve their health and fitness goals and to impact their surrounding community. We will work with them on engaging their neighborhood by hosting a minimum of one community health fair or similar event per congregation. We will also provide them with resources from BMA’s program partners including Arbour Health System, Casa Myrna, Learn Your Options, and BMC HealthNet Plan.
Fit Church/Fit Community
Our objective is to reduce health disparities in the Black community, particularly in the urban congregations of Boston and the local communities they serve.
Fit Church/Fit Community (“FC/FC”) is an initiative of the Black Ministerial Alliance to partner with local congregations, based in specific low-income, minority neighborhoods, to improve health outcomes for residents of their immediate neighborhood. Our objective is to reduce health disparities in the Black community, particularly in the urban congregations of Boston and the local communities they serve.
To do this, the local congregations will work on a three-pronged strategy: (1) improve eating habits (2) increase exercise/physical activity, and (3) promote regular access to health care resources.
